The Future
July 2007, will see the Dome open its doors as `The 02` and provide London with a new world class entertainment and sports destination that is equivalent in size to 13 Albert Halls or 10 St Pauls Cathedrals.
The centrepiece of The 02 will be a 23,000 capacity arena with concerts already scheduled by U2, Elton John, Justin Timberlake and Luciano Pavarotti.
The 02 will also house over 12 restaurants and bars offering an extensive range of choice, a 2200 seater Live Music Club, a British music experience housing UK music memorabilia and interactive attractions, a 11 screen cinema complex with 700 seater premiere screening room, an Exhibition Centre to feature King Tutankhamun Exhibition `Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs' from November 2007, a 1800 seater theatre with resident shows such as Cirque du Soleil, an Ice Rink, a World Class Regional Casions (subject to gaming licence), Iconic Luxury Hotel, a Piazza landscaped open space between The 02 and North Greenwich tube station, featuring an outdoor screening area and stage.
The Gymnastics World Championships in 2009 will be held at the O2. As the world's most prestigious gymnastics championships, the six day event, is expected to attract nearly 1000 participants from more than 100 countries. The O2 will also host basketball and gymnastics for the 2012 Olympics.
